Dr. Bynum’s love for animals began in childhood with her beloved Cairn Terrier, DJ. Her passion was further shaped by her father, who introduced her to veterinary professionals during his service in the U.S. Army—experiences that would ultimately guide her toward her calling and right back to Maryland where her story started. In September of 2025 Dr. Bynum returned to her Baltimore roots to care for the pets and families of the Canton, Fells Point, Highlandtown & Brewer’s Hill communities & beyond.
Education & Experience
Dr. Bynum earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia State University, followed by both her Master of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine. Before becoming a veterinarian, she gained invaluable hands-on experience working as a veterinary technician in general practice and emergency settings for two Baltimore area facilities. During which time, she developed a love for Veterinary Dentistry.
Medical Approach & Specialties
Dr. Bynum’s approach to medicine is kind, empathetic, thorough, and investigative. Her professional interests include surgery, dermatology and urgent care. She is the kind of doctor that will stay late just to investigate all the treatment options available for a patient’s condition so that you have all the options and can make the most informed decision.
What she loves most about her work is building meaningful relationships with clients and their pets. She loves the joy of seeing a once-unwell patient return to health and the relief that it brings to their families.
Life Outside the Hospital
When she’s not caring for patients, Dr. Bynum enjoys:
- Gardening and tending to her growing collection of houseplants
- Unwinding with K-dramas. She is a huge BTS fan!
- Growing her own food – She’s especially proud of preparing her homegrown harvest for Thanksgiving dinner this past year!
- Reading
- Spending time with her energetic 5-year-old Border Collie/German Shorthaired Pointer mix named Kai.
- Spending time with her family.
